Children's University BUT Junior started lessons at FME this year
Almost a hundred kids headed to the specialized facilities of two institutes and to the workshop of one of the student teams.
All departments of the Institute participate in research and development activities in the form of project solutions of Czech and foreign grant agencies, direct orders from industry and bilateral cooperation with foreign partners. They achieve internationally comparable results and, according to the focus of individual departments, their activities mainly affect the following areas:
Employees of the department solve the problems of stiffness, strength, dynamics, fatigue and ductile failure of machine parts and systems in complex conditions of time-varying mechanical and thermal loads. The subject of interest is also the influence of residual stresses, the dynamics of rotating machines or the use of DIC in the analysis of deformation.
The main topics are the areas of micro/meso mechanics of anisotropic heterogeneous materials and gradient elasticity, focused recently on the design of complex material structures from functional materials or on the development and computational analysis of advanced "SMART" materials. In the center of interest is also the analytical-numerical description of brittle fracture in these multifunctional materials.
From a wide range of topics, the staff of the department is mainly focused on developments in the area of the cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal biomechanics and bioacoustics. A specific feature of the department is a close cooperation with leading medical and research facilities in the Czech Republic and abroad.
The principal topics include the development of advanced algorithms and control methods for complex nonlinear systems, identification of systems with a focus on parameter estimation of simulation models and rapid design of control systems and testing of mechatronic systems.
This is a new department, operating from the beginning of 2024. The content of its research activity will be the development of autonomous systems, AI and mobile robotics with applications in the field of smart factories and agriculture.

Another Gold Medal – for Lifetime Achievement – was awarded to Professor Přemysl Janíček from the Institute of Solid Mechanics, Mechatronics and Biomechanics.
In mid-July, it wants to start selling a wireless game console and loudspeaker for airsoft, paintball and similar sports.
A new generation of implants or unique materials to be used in industry and transport. These are some of the many achievements pursued by scientists from five Czech institutions.
In addition to track condition diagnostics, the team's experts are now also focusing on developing a solution that would help detect damages to passing trains and reduce repair costs or prevent an…
Delft University of Technology, Vienna University of Technology and Imperial College London. The three prestigious foreign universities are partners in the project, which will be coordinated by the…
An inconspicuous sensor on the rail, which detects any vibrations and excitements, sends a signal and artificial intelligence evaluates the potential risk. According to experts from FME, this could…
In case the aneurysm ruptures, half of the patients die. While smaller aneurysms are usually only closely watched by physicians, larger ones are usually operated on.
