Original abstract
Possible ways leading to reduction of energy requirements for carrying on processes of thermal treatment of high heat value waste by utilising gasification technology were assessed. The results of gasification tests with specially prepared waste carried out in experimental fluidised bed reactor operating at atmospheric pressure served as incipient information. The waste that was mostly a mixture of shredded textiles and rubber and had the heat value of 33 MJ/kg was dosed at the rate of 15 to 22 kg/h in reactor. The gasification was carried out within temperature range 800 to 860 C in the presence of air entering at stoichiometric ratio of 0,15 to 0,25. Based on the results of the waste gasification testing, heat and mass balances of the incineration plant with capacity of 10 kt/yr of industrial waste were evaluated and the results compared with conditions required in an incineration plant operating under oxidation regime. It was concluded that by utilising gasification process for thermal decomposition of waste, it was possible to achieve a significant reduction of investment and operating cost due to a lower consumption of high-value auxiliary fuel as well as due to a reduced volume of flue gas produced.
