Original abstract

Gearbox is a significant part of every car or rotating machinery and a detection of its incipient fault is important for the evaluation of a service life time. Recently, the acoustic emission has been used in some studies for the early detection of gear fault. The experiments with the single stage gearboxes are described in these studies. The aim of this paper is to describe possibilities of damage detection on the automotive gearbox using acoustic emission method. In addition to a comparison of the acoustic emission parameters, the advanced signal processing is described as well. It is concluded that the acoustic emission has increasing potential in the condition monitoring of gearboxes.
