Original abstract

As a part of projects focused on the development of the gasification process and its utilization for the treatment of biomass and high calorific wastes an experimental facility – fluidized bed reactor – has been installed and put into operation. A set of experimental measurement was taken from this experimental facility in October 2001. Combination of shredded rubber and textiles was used as a model waste. The experimental facility can work in both gasification and incineration regimes and temperature up to 950C provided near atmospheric pressure. Temperature of 800 – 860C was achieved during experiment, and feed waste capacity was between 15 22 kg/h. Experimental tests also verified the possibility of using gasification technology for the treatment of crushed model waste. The work presented also performs an assessment of conditions of gasification technology utilization for the thermal treatment of wastes. There is an appearance of beneficial alternative to the incineration unit based on the usage of a gasification reactor for the first stage of thermal decomposition. An expected asset of immediate connection of gasifier together with a secondary combustion chamber (afterburner stage) is especially in the radical reduction of auxiliary fuel consumption in a secondary combustion chamber, and primary thermal decomposition of the treated material under a temperature of melting point of ashes from solid residues.
