Original abstract
The influence of the water environment on natural frequencies of typical water turbine runners have been analyzed. Two case problems are presented in the paper. The first case involves a five blade Kaplan turbine runner. The FEM-model includes the complete runner structure and the fluid region with boundaries respecting the geometry of the runner chamber and that of the draught tube. The runner blade – runner chamber wall clearances are considered. In the second case, analysis of the second stage runner of a high-head Francis-type pump turbine is described. The FEM-model includes the precisely modeled runner inclusive labyrinth sealing. The fluid region boundaries respect the geometry of the runner chamber and particularly that of runner labyrinth sealing. The results of numerical analyses are compared with experimentally obtained data.
