Writing skills are essential for the accurate dissemination of ideas, procedures and results and are therefore important for the efficient operation of industry. The handbook contains training materials in scientific writing skills so as to improve researchers' career prospects and their effectiveness in the organisations for which they work. The materials are primarily intended for self-study and are produced in handbook form. They could also form the basis for constructing programmes for continuous education for technical and scientific personnel in institutes and in industry (R & D). This handbook has been designed to be a reference book and guide for researchers who have to write up their scientific work in English and who may need help to compose and write more clearly and accurately in the language. Příručka je zaměřena především na zefektivnění písemného vyjadřování cílové skupiny autorů – zejména mladých absolventů odborných škol, kteří tak mohou zlepšit své profesní vyhlídky v celoevropském měřítku. Příručka pokrývá oblasti odborného písemného projevu, které byly stanoveny na základě analýzy potřeb jako nejvíce problémové: 1. Typy odborných textů – vědecké články, odborné publikace, návrhy projektů.Tato kapitola se zabývá základními rozdíly mezi výše uvedenými typy a jejich strukturou. 2. Kompozice – tato kapitola představuje jednotlivé prvky, které tvoří kostru odborného písemného textu jako např. titul, plánování odborného textu, tabulky a grafy, shrnutí,atd. 3. Styl – uvedená kapitola se zaměřuje na takové jevy jako objektivita písemného projevu, jasnost a stručnost vyjadřování, formálnost, vytyčování hlavních myšlenek,atd. 4. Funkce jazyka – tato kapitola pojednává o takových funkcích jako vyjádření souhlasu a nesouhlasu, třídění materiálu, porovnávání a protiklady, definování, zobecnění,atd. 5. Gramatika – v této specifické kapitole jsou zahrnuty pouze výrazně problematické gramatické jevy, s nimiž se autoři odborných textů opakovaně setkávají a potřebují si je ujasnit (interpunkce, pořádek slov, vyjádření číslovek, členy,atd.) 6. Slovní zásoba – tato kapitola podává přehled nejpoužívanějších zkratek, předpon a přípon v oblasti odborného vědeckého a technického stylu. Definice jevů jsou stručné, doplněné o řadu praktických příkladů. Grafická úprava by měla splňovat nároky technicky orientované cílové skupiny – tabulky, přehledné členění kapitol. Příručka je především zamýšlena jako pomůcka pro samostudium, k rychlému vyhledání problematického jevu a nalezení odpovědi.
