Original abstract

The aim of the study was to design a superior K wire tip and to compare its performance with the commonly used trochar and diamond tips. The effect of this new MEDIN geometry is a reduction of insertion forces and reduction in heat generation during drilling. The new design does however have a low insertion torque this may mean that pull out from bone will be easier and the author suggest that a threaded version of this wire is used when bone hold is important.

Czech abstract

Cílem této studie byl návrh nového designu Kirschnerova drátu a srovnání jeho vlastností s konvenčními K-dráty typu trokar a kopinatý vrták. Hlavním přínosem nové MEDIN geometrie je redukce inserčních sil a tvorby tepla během vrtání. Nový design umožňuje i nízký krouticí moment, což má za následek nižší vytahovací síly pro K-dráty. Pokud by byly požadovány vyšší vytahovací síly, je možno použít například K-drát, vybavený závitem.
