English abstract

The paper presents a non-traditional system view of material engineering. Characteristics of system objects among which the material engineering can be ranked are outlined, together with attributes of system access, which can be applied on these objects. The paper introduces branches of material engi-neering as experimental, computational, applied and theoretical one and in relation to objects to which it is applied it is divided to technical, biomedical, artistic and applied one. Defined are the notions structural, accidental and identificational problem. Further on, the facts which transform material en-gineering into a dynamical scientific branch are presented and analysed in the paper. These analyses are concluded by statements, what should be done now in material engineering in relation to system methodology, scientific knowledge and pedagogical process.
