Byl navržen model, který umožňuje vysvětlit některé experimentální pozorování týkající se přechodu od intrinsického zhouževnatění řízeného zachycením čela trhliny tvárnými částicemi k extrinsickému zhouževnatění, které je řízeno přemostěním trhliny.
