Original abstract

Confocal scanning laser microscopy (CSLM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were applied to study surface relief within persistent slip markings (PSMs) in cast nickel-based superalloy Inconel 738LC cyclically strained under strain control at room temperature. The PSM topography with the shape and size of extrusions and intrusions and their evolution during cycling is documented. Isolated peak-like intrusions and hilly extrusions indicate that the cyclic plastic strain is non-uniformly distributed in persistent slip bands. Surface relief data obtained with both high-resolution techniques are compared.
