Original abstract

The restraining effect of second-phase particles on an advancing crack front is analyzed. The stress-crack opening displacement relationship relies upon the constant voluime plastic flow of the particles. The particles are alowed to deform using several different patterns which correspond to the particular strength of the matrix/particle interface. The toughness increase is predicted for several combinations of micromechanical parameters of composite system.
