Original abstract

Aseptic loosening of the total hip replacement (THR) of the hip joint is the most frequent reason of its failure. Polyethylene particles involved at relative motion between the head and the cup of the THR plays an ultimate part of this type of failure. Quantity of the polyethylene particles is influenced (among others) a value and distribution of the contact pressure inside the cup. The purpose of this paper is to perform strain-stress analysis of the hip joint with THR applied and to specify the influence of the head diameter on the value and distribution of the contact pressure inside the cup.
