Original abstract

Effective machining of austenitic steels has been a long-term challenge due to the unique combination of mechanical properties, strain hardening, poor heat conductivity, and tendency to build up-edge formation of the steel when cutting. The round HSS cutting dies M10x1,5-6g, uncoated and PVD-coated with sputtering technology – TINALOX® GOLD, ALOX SN2, and HIPIMs technology – FerroCon®, FerroCon ®+Ti,Al(C,N), three samples per each variant, produced in the company CemeCon Ivancice, Czech Republic. All PVD-coated cutting dies showed a very good cutting performance compared to the uncoated HSS dies, prolonging the tool lives 4-9 times overall. The longest effective time of chip formation for TINALOX® GOLD was 43-45 minutes. The higher recorded temperatures of chips (107-111°C) resulted in better formability of the material, compared to 104-105°C for uncoated HSS tools. The PVD coatings worked like ceramic insulators, preventing intensive heat flux into the tool, and enhancing so the plastic deformation of the austenitic steel. The best results for the round HSS cutting die were achieved repeatedly with the sputtering technology – TINALOX® GOLD, which provided excellent tribology between the tool, chip, and workpiece and high-quality threads.

Efektivní obrábění austenitických ocelí je dlouhodobou výzvou kvůli jedinečné kombinaci mechanických vlastností, deformačního zpevnění, špatné tepelné vodivosti a sklonu k vytváření nárůstků při řezání. Kruhovité závitořezné nástroje HSS M10x1,5-6g, nepovlakované a povlakované PVD technologií naprašování – jmenovitě povlaky TINALOX® GOLD, ALOX SN2 a HIPIMs – FerroCon®, FerroCon®+Ti,Al(C,N), s četností tří vzorků pro každou variantu, vyrobené ve firmě CemeCon Ivančice, Česká republika. Všechny řezné nástroje s PVD povlakem vykazovaly velmi dobrý řezný výkon ve srovnání s nepovlakovanými nástroji HSS, celkově prodloužily životnost nástroje 4-9krát. Nejdelší efektivní doba tvorby třísky pro TINALOX® GOLD byla 43-45 minut. Vyšší zaznamenané teploty třísek (107-111°C) vedly k lepší tvařitelnosti materiálu ve srovnání s 104-105°C u nepovlakovaných HSS nástrojů. Povlaky PVD fungovaly jako keramické izolanty, zabraňovaly intenzivnímu tepelnému toku do nástroje a urychlovaly tak plastickou deformaci austenitické oceli. Nejlepších výsledků bylo opakovaně dosaženo s technologií naprašování – TINALOX® GOLD, která poskytla vynikající tribologii mezi nástrojem, třískou a obrobkem a vysoce kvalitní závity.
