Original abstract

This paper deals with modelling of a grooving machining process that includes chip formation and tool loading. The finite element method (FEM) is used for a simulation based on the Lagrangian formulation, including ANSYS/LS-DYNA software. The constitutive Johnson-Cook material model regarding strain and strain rate to predict material plasticity and chip separation is used. The model was determined based on the Taylor test, where a cylindrical specimen is shot against a solid substrate. Based on the final reshaping of the test specimen and the resulting stresses on the impact plate and comparing it with the numerical simulation, the individual parameters of the Johnson-Cook constitutive equation can be determined. Loading forces, chip morphology, stress and strain have been obtained. The Results are compared with experimental results and other references.
