Original abstract

This work focuses on the issue of emergency prevention in the operation of municipal solid waste landfills. In this work, an emergency is understood to be a situation involving fires, leakage of landfill water into the environment, leakage or deflagration of landfill gas, etc. The objective of the work is to provide municipal landfill operators and fire department members with aggregated information on the causes during operations to prevent these undesirable events. The authors strive to fill a gap in the field of scientific papers dealing with the analysis of emergency situations that have occurred in the past. To this end, a reference database of 128 emergency data sets was compiled. The information from the reference database was analysed, a summary description of the causes of emergency events was prepared, and measures against the recurrence of these events were described. The work also addresses firefighting procedures, consumption of firefighting water, and firefighting time. The primary sources of information used in this work are publicly available databases on industrial accidents, scientific papers, fire department information portals, and, to a limited extent, newspaper articles.
