Original abstract

The article provides demonstration of an importance of choosing a model for radiative properties of a packed bed in CFD simulations using a porous-medium approach. Aside from porosity, the fuel particle arrangement affects the rate of absorption, scattering, and emission, which qualitativelly affects the combustion process, including the flame extinction.
