Original abstract

Reciprocating combustion engines of contemporary aircraft are mostly based on older designs. The paper deals with the modernization of the valve train of the inverted in-line air-cooled four-cylinder engine for the ultra-light aircraft. The goal is to design a more cost-effective technology solution for forces transmission from the cam to the push rod of the Overhead Valve system. For this purpose, state-of-the-art tools are used for the design of kinematics of valve train and its dynamic simulation. The result consists in design of a new lower technology-intensive flat-faced cam follower and a correspondingly new cam profile with better parameters of induction and exhaust processes at the same valve lift and timing.
