Original abstract

This paper proposes the parameters that are used by acoustic emission to define damaged and undamaged cylinders. The main aim of the paper is to supplement the already approved methodology for damage identification of pneumatic cylinders by other type of cylinders. Pneumatic cylinders can be diagnosed using acoustic emission method due to a different response to different types of artificially created defects. Acoustic emission sensors are very sensitive to any change in the measurement configuration. Therefore, it is important to find appropriate acoustic emission signal parameters that are least affected by the above effects. The most frequently evaluated signal parameters are root mean square (RMS) of acoustic emission signal over time. Due to the high sensitivity of acoustic emission method, it is possible to describe the differences in responses of intact cylinder and cylinders with artificially created defect. Similarly, signal development can be monitored with increasing number of monitored cylinder cycles. These observations confirm that acoustic emission method can be used to identify damage on pneumatic cylinder.
