Original abstract

Technical systems requirements have been continuously growing, whether it is dependability or safety. The provision of a high level of dependability is possible during the design and development phase due to inherent dependability. A high level of dependability means a well prepared design, quality material, accurately performed production, etc. Even if the inherent dependability is lower, its level might be kept provided there is a quality maintenance system. At present it is rather common not to follow the maintenance scheme of regular fixed intervals (given by operating time or calendar days). In our article we focus on specific oil particles, i.e. soot. It is formed as a by-product during fuel combustion. Soot contaminates the oil and its concentration might indicate that operating conditions are getting worse. In the analysis and modelling we use a deterministic mathematical method – the median regression which allows us to present mathematical properties of the soot particles.
