Original abstract
Effort in a number of industries (e.g. aerospace, automotive) leads to increase of performance while reducing weight and operational costs thanks to replacement of the mechanical joints by welded joints. Precipitation hardened aluminum alloys are one of the most used material in this case thanks to the favorable ratio between strength and density of material. Welding of these materials is connected with undesirable changes of structure and occurrence of typical welding defects. Range of microstructural changes and associated changes of mechanical properties depends on the chosen method of welding. This work is focused on the welding of precipitation hardenable aluminum alloys by electron beam. Electron beam welding offers many advantages including the possibility of optimizing the welding process by a variety of process parameters which may significantly change the geometry of the weld and thus the amount of present defects. The homogeneous welds of aluminum alloy Al-Cu (AA2024) and Al-Mg-Si (AA6061) were performed for the evaluation the influence of the selected process parameters on the resulted welds.
