Original abstract

Machine parts with non-conformal contact surfaces can operate with thin lubrication film. In the vicinity of asperities or micro-dents, significant fluctuations in lubricant film thickness and in contact pressure occur, which can have positive or negative effects on lubrication efficiency and contact fatigue life. The knowledge of mentioned quantities is necessary for assessment of these effects. Presented work is concerned with improved technique for numerical determination of pressure from measured film thickness using the inverse elasticity theory whereas the time consuming calculation is enhanced by rapid convolution. The solution of other partial calculation difficulties is discussed, too.
