Professor Miloslav Druckmüller from the Institute of Mathematics, FME, was elected by the Representatives of the South Moravian Region as a personality of the South Moravian Region for his contribution in the field of science.
Professor Miloslav Druckmüller is a graduate of Mathematics at Masaryk University. From 1979 to the present day he has been employed at the Institute of Mathematics of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the BUT, where he is the head of the Department of Computer Graphics and Geometry.
Miloslav Druckmüller is a world-renowned expert in the field of numerical methods for processing images of the solar corona obtained during total solar eclipses or by space probes. He is also involved in science popularization and teaching, he has won the Best Teacher of the BUT according to the students' evaluation in the student survey among master's students three times in a row.
In 2008 Prof. Druckmüller was awarded the Silver Medal of the Brno University of Technology, in 2017 the Gold Medal of the Brno University of Technology. In recognition of his significant contribution to the development of new mathematical methods of image processing, which found application mainly in astronomy, he was awarded the Medal of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic in the category of scientific worker in 2011. In 2013, he was elected delegate of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) for the Czech Republic. Other awards include the Brno City Prize in Natural Sciences, which he received in 2014. In 2018, the International Astronomical Union approved a proposal to name the asteroid 6263 after him. In the same year he received the Jindřich Zeman Award for the best astrophotography.
