In the area of combustion and gasification, the research is focused on researching the properties of fuels and on the thermal processing of wood and non-wood biomass, alternative fuels and selected types of waste. Emphasis is placed on increasing the efficiency of equipment and, in particular, on eliminating the environmental impacts of energy production from these fuels. Experimental research and development is in the scope of:
-
analysis of fuels and the influence of their properties on thermal processes
-
design, development and verification of combustion and gasification devices
-
research on the combustion process and emissions production
-
offline and online analysis of flue gas, produced gases, flue gas and selected waste liquids
-
steam and enriched air gasification research
-
combustion of low calorific gas
-
production of hydrogen from synthesis gases
-
research in the field of syngas and flue gas cleaning
Further information is available on the websites of individual laboratories:
- Fuel laboratory
The fuel laboratory is focused on determining the basic fuel properties of solid and liquid fuels for the energy industry and on the research of fuel as an input raw material for the combustion and gasification process. We deal with the determination of fuel parameters using methods standardised according to ČSN, which allow us to perform measurements comparable to professional and accredited laboratories. More information here. - Combustion plant test room and laboratory
The laboratory of experimental combustion is focused on the research of wood and non-wood biomass combustion, or biodegradable waste. We also deal with the development and design of hot air and hot water heat appliances. We test boilers with outputs of 10 to 200 kW. More information here. - Gasification laboratory
The gasification laboratory focuses on research and development in the field of fluidised bed gasification of biomass, alternative fuels and selected types of waste. Research activities aim at research in the gasification of various types of fuels and gasification media, research in the field of purification of produced energy gas and, last but not least, on research into the combustion of low-calorific gas. More information here. - Fine particles laboratory
The Fine Particles Laboratory is focused on the identification and analysis of fine particles emitted by combustion processes, manufacturing processes and road transport emissions. The combination of several measurement methods covers the complete spectrum of emitted particles in terms of size and concentration. The measurements are either performed on-line or the particles are captured on filters for subsequent gravimetric or chemical analysis. The laboratory’s primary focus is on research into the formation and growth of the smallest particles during combustion processes. More information here. - Laboratory of heat exchangers and condensers
The laboratory’s main activity is the experimental evaluation of heat transfer on heat exchange surfaces during heating/cooling of liquids and gases. We focus primarily on evaluating heat flows of non-standard geometric configurations of heat exchange surfaces (sprinkled exchangers, labyrinth seals, small channels) and on energy applications of heat exchangers with phase change of the working substance (boiling, condensation). The laboratory facilities of specialised laboratories are used for research activities, and thanks to the mobile apparatus, we also carry out measurements "in the field.". More information here.
