Advanced CAD Applications in Technologies

FSI-HC1 Acad. year: 2025/2026 Winter semester

The course is an introduction to the CAD system with a focus on software working in 2D, 3D and surface modelling. It also deals with the hardware of the CAD system, the connection to data management and product lifecycle management systems PDM and PLM.
It will enable to acquire basic knowledge for designing tools and jigs in CAD environment in order to prepare data for further processing in CAM systems. There is also an accent on moulds, their design and data preparation.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Prerequisites

Technical drawing, quotation, tolerancing.

Basic knowledge of 2D/3D CAD.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Attendance in the exercises is compulsory and checked. It is allowed a maximum of two absences per semester. The course-unit credit is awarded according to attendance and submission of individual assignments in the exercises. Attendance in lectures is recommended.
The exam tests student's theoretical and practical knowledge of computer technology and its application to the construction 3D modelling used in machining technology. The practical part of the exam reflects student's ability to create a model in CAD systems.

Individual assignments and result checking.

Language of instruction

Czech

Aims

The aim is to introduce students to the basic activities in the design of machine parts in CAD systems with applications of 3D, assemblies and surface models.
Students will learn to work in CAD systems with a focus on creating 3D models used for further applications in CAM systems, assemblies and drawings. Gain an overview of engineering technology and computer systems and their classification. Learning the methodology of working in CAD systems. Systems of work in PDM and PLM.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
