Industrial Safety

FSI-CPB Acad. year: 2023/2024 Winter semester

The main content of the course is a review of approaches to safety assurance (occupational health and safety, safety of machinery, environmental safety, prevention of serious accidents).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course allows the students to obtain basic knowledge in the field of risk management and safety assurance.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of mathematics in the extent of previous studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is expected.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures. According to the possibility of teaching can be organized lectures for students by practitioners and excursions to companies focused on activities related to the course content.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Requirements for course-unit credit award: active participation in lectures and seminars, semestral work elaboration, test; in justified cases, the lecturer may set alternative requirements.

Aims

The aim of the course is to familiarize the students with approaches to the prevention of injuries and the prevention of losses in industrial enterprises. Attention will be paid to all basic areas of occupational health and safety and information security. 

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Presence in lectures is recommended, presence in seminars is compulsory.
In justified cases alternative form of tuition, solution of the individual semestral project.

1. History of safety in the Czech Republic and EU.
2. Occupational safety and health protection in an industry.
3. Safety in the workplace.
4. Factors affecting safety in the workplace.
5. Categorization of works and prevention of hazards.
6. Personal protective equipment.
7. Hazards created by neglecting ergonomic principles.
8. Occupational hygiene and prevention of occupational diseases.
9. Fire safety.
10. Protection of personal data.
11. Information security.
12. Cyber security.
13. Summarization of the presented topics, presentation of semestral works.
