Introduction to the TeX
FSI-0TX Acad. year: 2021/2022 Summer semester
The subject deals with computer typesetting of mathematical and other documents by means of the TeX system. The subject includes the project of typesetting an own document.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Student will be able to create documents by means of the TeX and LaTeX system typesetting of tables and including pictures for both printed documents and beamer presentation.
Prerequisites
Basic work with PC and with text editor.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through exercises which are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of creation own document of the form of a contribution to proceedings. The article should contain mathematical formulae, tables and pictures.

The aim of the subject is to provide students with the basic knowledge of computer typesetting and creating professional documents.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Absence has to be made up by self-study and possibly via assigned homework.

2 LaTeX format. Rules for typesetting in the text mode.
3 Typesetting of mathematical formulas.
4 System LaTeX and its philosophy.
5 Defining and using macros. Typesetting of tables.
6 Simple pictures in the picture environment.
4 Boxes, including of pictures to the document.
8 Information distribution, automatic numbering.
9 Advanced LaTeX tools, table of contents, index.
10 Introduction to making pictures by METAPOST system.
11 Checking of students documents of the project.
12 Reserve.
