Network fundamentals and switching as the first part of preparation for Cisco CCNA certification.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Overview of basic concepts of computer networks, standardization, media, network protocols, adressing, interconnection and devices. The ability to create local computer networks, configure switches and identify network issues.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is conditional on an active attendance at seminars.

The first part of preparation for Cisco CCNA certification.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance at lectures is recommended; the attendance at seminars is obligatory. Lessons are organised according to a week schedule. The form of substituting of missed seminars is fully in the competence of the tutor.

– Functions and role os network components, network topologies, cable and network interface types
- Types of interface and cable issues (collisions, errors, ...),
- Network standarization, TCP and UDP comparison
- IPv4 addressing and subnetting, private adressing
- IPv6 addressing and prefixes, IPv6 adress types
- Switching concepts
- Konfigurace VLAN, interswitch connectivity
- Network discovery protocols (CDP, LLDP)
- STP protocols
- Wireless principles
- Cisco wireles architectures, GUI configuration
