Course detail

Boilers

FSI-LK Acad. year: 2021/2022 Winter semester

The course is concerned with detailed calculations of the combustion chamber and convection parts of the boiler and with the basics of the hydrodynamic and aerodynamic calculations. Conception problems in the design of various types of boilers for solid (incl. biomass), liquid and gaseous types of fuel, wastes and fuel mixtures will also be presented. Also dealt with are: construction and calculations of the boiler heat exchangers, application of special construction materials, and new trends in the construction of boilers.

Department

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will acquire theoretical knowledge, which they can apply as well prepared specialist to construction of boilers and their operation. At seminars students will get practical experience with calculations needed for their work in power engineering.

Prerequisites

Thermomechanics, heat and mass transfer.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit requirements: Attendance at seminars, Students have to receive 6 out of 10 points in simple test during one of the seminars and submit a paper on "Calculation and constructional design of boiler for the combustion turbine". Exam has two parts: Written exam – 2 questions and 1 practical task. Oral exam – final evaluation adjustment.

Language of instruction

Czech

Aims

The course objective is to make students familiar with present level of construction and operation of boilers with modern parts for more economical operation of boiler and lower emissions. Students prepare for the successful working out of their final project and diploma thesis.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars is obligatory, at lectures it is recommended. Compensation of missed seminars to be consulted with a teacher.
