Course detail

Heating

FSI-IVT Acad. year: 2021/2022 Winter semester

The course deals with heating systems including heating sources and projecting of heating pipework. The course introduces the basic principles of heating systems, as hydronics, hotwater, steam and radiant heating systems. Lectures are concerned especially with central heating, radiant heating (specially radiant floor heating), heating of large-space building and district heating systems. A complex of technical solutions of the configuration of the heating system made of a heating source, distribution system of the heat medium, heat accumulation, heated area, and regulation, measurements and control is discussed. The emphasis is put on the reduction of heat consumption with the application of the appropriate modern method of heating and renewable energy resources such as solar energy.

Department

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain knowledge, which enable them to design modern and energy-saving systems that are used for heating residential and industrial buildings.

Prerequisites

Theoretical basis of heat transfer, thermomechanics and fluid mechanics. The knowledge in the area of environmental engineering and assessment of thermal comfort.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.
