Researchers' Night 2024 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the BUT was once again an unforgettable experience. This year's theme "Transformation" brought visitors a varied programme full of lectures, science shows, excursions, hydrogen explosions, virtual reality or a demonstration of a student electric formula. Despite the inclement weather, the event was attended by over fifteen hundred visitors, both young and adults.
Researchers' Night is an annual nationwide event that aims to dispel stereotypes of scientists as isolated figures in laboratories. It shows that scientists are "ordinary" people doing work that benefits us all, and that they can present it in an interesting and entertaining way.
All institutes and student teams were involved in the preparation of the programme. Our scientists and researchers offered visitors a glimpse into their labs during field trips and set up interactive stations to entertain and educate. Science popularizers from SCIENCE ON put up a thrilling science show on the theme of "Sugar Transformation".
Professor Miloslav Druckmüller, Professor Martin Hartl, Professor Josef Štětina and Dr. Petr Dvořák gave engaging lectures. Competitions, experiments and workshops were prepared for the children, and all participants could take part in a quiz for small prizes. Visitors also enjoyed a unique view of Brno from the 19th floor of the A1 high-rise building.
The programme was also waiting for visitors in front of the faculty. In the car park there were driving demonstrations of the student electric formula Dragon e4, which unfortunately was adversely affected by the rainy weather. Outside the entrance to the building was a display of the RTR Projects racing team and a Hydrogen show was held every hour .
We thank all visitors for their time and hope they enjoyed the event. We look forward to seeing you next year! A big thank you also to all the students and staff who dedicated Friday evening to popularising science.
