At its meeting on November 25, 2021, the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Brno University of Technology elected a candidate for the position of the Dean for period from February 2022 to the end of January 2026. This is the current Vice-Dean of FME Associate Professor Jiří Hlinka from the Institute of Aerospace Engineering. Hlinka was the only candidate, receiving 26 votes from 32 senators present. The elected candidate for the Dean position has yet to be appointed by the Rector of the school.
Jiří Hlinka has been working in the management of the faculty since 2014 as Vice-Dean for External Relations and Cooperation with Industry. In his program, he said he wanted to develop FME's role as a major European technical faculty, known for providing quality technical education that relies on top academics working not only as teachers but also as excellent scientists and personalities working with industry on new technical solutions.
"But the role of the FME in relation to society is also crucial, where it should participate in promoting values leading to lasting cultivation, whether it is sustainable development, improving the quality of life or protecting the environment," Hlinka said. He also wants to improve the home environment of the faculty in order to create a pleasant and motivating background for employees and students. Part of this plan is the successful completion of the reconstruction of several buildings in the area, which will require hundreds of millions of crowns in the coming years.
