Students from five faculties, over a hundred exhibited images and the support of experienced professionals. The ninth exhibition of the The Student Photoclub Technika Brno, held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, officially kicked off on Tuesday 2 April and offered a programme full of inspiration.
This year, 21 authors are presenting 107 photographs of various genres – from landscapes to animal photos to portraits. The photographs were created using the archival pigment printing method on professional Fomei papers. Visitors have the opportunity to vote for the five best images using QR codes placed directly on the exhibition panels; voting is open until 30 April. The sponsor and big supporter of the photo club Miloslav Druckmüller has a special panel with a series of animal couples called “All you need is love”.
The exhibition is installed on the 2nd floor of the A5 building, Technická street 2, and will be on display until the end of April. |
"After the official opening of the exhibition in the presence of the faculty management, the members of the photography club had the opportunity to participate in a workshop where a Nikon-specialist gave advice on how to make a black and white portrait, and at the same time they could try out professional Nikon photographic equipment. The opening was concluded with a lecture by Professor Druckmüller on photography in Svalbard. Visitors to the lecture were able to see Nikon photographic equipment and Fomei lighting equipment on the stands outside the auditorium as they arrived," says Václav Široký, head of the club.
"The photoclub is currently prospering, we have over thirty active members from five faculties of the BUT. We meet during the semester every Tuesday from 18:30 at the Institute of Mathematics, which has taken us under its wing," adds Široký, pointing out that the club works thankt to the enthusiasm of the students and the support of the BUT and the faculty.
The club was a desire to create
The Student Photoclub Technika Brno was founded in 2016 by then students Jakub Halama and Martin Dohnal. Today, they are happy to see how the photoclub continues. And so they could not miss the opening ceremony.
"At the time, we were worried that the club would disappear after we left. I am even more pleased that it has not only survived, but that the new members have even lifted it up," says Jakub Halama, who now serves as chairman of the photoclub in Kroměříž.
"We founded the club because we liked to take pictures and we had nowhere to show our photos. At the same time, we wanted to enliven the premises of the faculty, as there were not so many cultural events at that time," adds his friend Martin Dohnal.
According to the founders, the club started very modestly – the first meetings were attended by dozens of people, but only a handful continued. Nevertheless, the community gradually grew and remained active after almost ten years.
And what is the message of the founders to the current members? "Take pictures, take pictures, take pictures – without that, one cannot improve. And it's best in a group, because you give feedback to each other and that's how you learn and move forward," Halama says. “And I wish you lots of light,” Dohnal adds with a smile.
The professional photo papers for the exhibition were provided by the sponsorship of Fomei, thanks a lot! More information about printing, papers and the photo club can be found on the information panel at the beginning of the corridor.
