The Jozef Suchý Medal for services to the promotion and functioning of the World Foundry Society (WFO) and foundry as a field was awarded to Professor Milan Horáček from the Institute of Manufacturing Technology. The colleague, who has linked his scientific and teaching career with Brno University of Technology, received the medal on 12 November from the hands of WFO Secretary General José Javier González.
The Sixtieth Foundry Days, which took place on 12-13 November at the Hotel Avanti in Brno, had a truly festive opening this year. The dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Jiří Hlinka, came to greet the attendees and witnessed an exceptional award of Professor Milan Horáček – the award of the Jozef Suchý Medal for Merit for the WFO.
"In addition to his achievements in the field and in academia, Professor Horáček has long been involved in foundry within the World Foundry Organization, which he also led as its president in the past. This is a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding work and dedication to the field," said WFO Secretary General José Javier González, who presented the medal.
Professor Horáček has been working at the Institute of Manufacturing Technology of the FSI since the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, when he studied at the then Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and began working as a student researcher at the Department of Foundry Engineering. During his career, he has been very active outside the BUT in professional organizations such as the Czech Foundry Society, the Society of Precision Casting or the World Foundry Organization (WFO).
