The high-rise building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering hosted the 20th annual Engineering stairs race on Wednesday, November 13th. Two new records were set: in the Students’ Relay category, "Old guard" triumphed, and among male Alumni, Ondřej Piňos improved his previous record.
Overcrowded elevators, tension, joy, relief. Such is the atmosphere of the Engineering stairs race, which has been held at FSI since 2000. A several-year hiatus was caused by the reconstruction of the tallest university building in the Czech Republic, after which the organization of the race was taken over by the Student Chamber of the Academic Senate FME. This tradition continues to this day.
130 competitors took their places at the start of the 20th anniversary event. In the afternoon, 45 relay teams in the Students and VIP categories also joined the race, including teams from the dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Rectorate of Brno University of Technology.
The fastest runner of the day was alumnus Ondřej Piňos, who even improved his previous record by completing the stairs in 1:25.46. A new record was also set in the Students’ Relay category, where the team "Stará garda" won gold with a time of 1:08.09.
The winners of each category were:
1st place | Male Students | Lukáš Preisler | 01:25.48 |
1st place | Female Students | Nela Hrdličková | 02:05.42 |
1st place | Male Alumni | Ondřej Piňos | 01:25.46 |
1st place | Students’ Relay | Old guard | 01:08.09 |
1st place | VIP Relay | Young guns | 01:16.47 |

Congratulations to the winners and all other participants who surpassed themselves and gave their best! A big thank you to the Student Chamber of the Academic Senate of FME for excellent organization and to all sponsors for supporting the event.
