On Thursday 25 January, the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering held a day-long event for high school students called "Become a Materials Expert". Eleven students from the 3rd and 4th year of the Matyáš Lerch Gymnasium in Brno took part.
"The event was an important opportunity for high school students to improve their awareness of their studies at the Brno University of Technology, but also to expand their knowledge and practical skills in the field of materials engineering," said Hana Kolevová from the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering.
The students had the opportunity to first get a glimpse of the real environment of scientific laboratories and to get acquainted with modern technologies and research methods, which gave them a better understanding of the fields they were studying. This was followed by a practical part of the programme, during which students tried out for themselves the various techniques and procedures used in the field of materials engineering.
"Last but not least, there was a meeting between the students and our experts, giving the young visitors an unusual insight into future career opportunities in science and technology. Overall, the "Become a Materials Expert" event was not only an enrichment of theoretical knowledge for the high school students, but also a valuable practice and inspiration for their future academic and professional development, as students discovered the fascinating world of materials engineering," added Kolevová.
