If you want a Bachelor's degree, you have to write and defend the final thesis. You will not get an exemption even if you have five world championship titles. Lukáš Záhorský, the world champion in motosurfing, knows about this as well. He decided to use his sports knowledge in his studies and connected the topic of his Bachelor's thesis with a motor surfboard, which he would like to adapt to more environmentally friendly fuels.
Last year, Lukáš won his fifth title of the World Champion in motosurfing and this year's "ride" for a Bachelor's degree was also successful. The topic of his Bachelor's thesis embraces his beloved sport, too. "I decided as usual: to combine school, sports and my work experience at MSR Engines, a company that manufactures motor surfboards," says Lukáš, who focused on the topic of green fuels for small internal combustion engines in his Bachelor's thesis.
These are exactly the kind of engines that power the Jetsurf board, but in line with technological development, the company also offers electric boards and is interested in mapping the possibility of switching to non-fossil fuels in the field of internal combustion engines. It was here that Lukáš found space for his bachelor's thesis. "I focused on synthetic fuels, i.e. non-fossil fuels produced chemically," he explains.
The idea of "greening" the motor surfboards is also said to be liked by the promoter of the World Championship. Today, the competitors have to use the precisely prescribed fuel and in order to guarantee the fair play, it is provided by the organizer of the event. "Of course, the overall transition of the motosurfing sport to synthetic fuels would involve additional efforts by developers and many hours of work, but my bachelor's thesis can be the first step," says Lukáš, who also received the "Industrial Enterprise Award" award from Garrett Motion for his work.
