In July, FME students had the opportunity to participate in the Summer University at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant. This two-week internship, which CEZ Group organizes at its nuclear power plants for university students, was held for the fifteenth time this year. Approximately one third of the participants were students of the BUT.
Interest in participating in the Summer University was high. A total of one hundred and eleven applicants from five universities applied. Thirty-two participants were selected on the basis of entrance tests, including eleven from FME. Primarily, these were students of the Energy Institute, Department of Power Engineering.
Seventy CEZ Group employees were present at the summer university, with whom the participants underwent an intensive training program focused on power plant technology and operations. The program of the Summer University consisted mainly of lectures and excursions into the power plant's operations. The students had the opportunity to visit the reactor hall, the machine room, the cooling towers, the intermediate storage of used nuclear fuel, the emergency headquarters, the training center in Brno, the fresh fuel storage, the electrical equipment, the unit supervision simulator, and much more. The closing ceremony of the university was also attended by the vice-dean of FME Jaroslav Katolický.
The Summer University is one of the most prestigious educational events for university students of technical disciplines. Those interested can use the information and knowledge gained for their diploma thesis or arrange for further individual practice. Approximately half of all participants will be offered a financial scholarship and future cooperation within the CEZ Group.
Congratulations to all participants for the successful completion of the summer unvierzity and thank you to our students for representing the faculty!
