Student Pneumobil Racing Team Brno scored at the international races in Kecskemét, Hungary. Their "Typhoon" returned home with three valuable metals: one bronze and two gold medals.
After a long covid break, the organizing company Emerson could once again invite student teams to Hungary to compare their strengths and compressed air-powered vehicles. Thirteen teams took to the start line to compete in three disciplines: the Long distance race, where the vehicle that travels the longest distance on a single cylinder wins, the Arcade race, where the aim is to complete three laps of the circuit as quickly as possible, and the Drag race, which is won by the fastest vehicle over a 220-metre timed course.
Their "Typhoon" passed the organisers' entry check and qualifying without a single problem, but then came complications. "Just before the start of the Long distance race, the display, where the driving modes and all important parameters are set, stopped working. Despite this unfortunate event, the driver managed to take a nice 3rd place. The Arcade race was not without its problems – after a great race, the second stop at the depot resulted in a puncture and freezing of the cylinder valve," the students described the exciting course of the race.
If something went wrong in the first two disciplines, they made up for it in the last one. In the royal discipline of the drag race, they did not give their rivals a chance and left the other monoposts far behind during the sprint. "The fact that we have no competition in speed was confirmed by Martin Valena. He completely dominated the teachers' race. The whole event was very successful for us, also considering that the team has undergone a significant change and for most of the members it was their racing debut," added team leader Václav Navrátil.
How did the team and their Typhoon car do?

Next year the team has two races coming up. In addition to the classic race in Hungary, the organizers want to organize a competition in Germany. "Due to the higher number of races we want to prepare two monoposts for next season. The races revealed several imperfections on the Typhoon, which we want to eliminate before the spring races. At the same time, we are developing a new Hurricane monopost, which is now in the final design phase and we are starting production. It should be ready for the autumn races in Hungary," concluded Navrátil.
