A group of exceptional graduates of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering gathered at Malinovsky Square in Brno. They did not meet in person, their stories were connected by an outdoor exhibition prepared by the FME. The faculty wants to introduce passers-by to exceptional graduates who have turned their technical education into an advantage in various scientific fields. The event takes place from October 3 to 31 and partly complements the faculty's participation in the International Engineering Fair, which takes place in the first week of October.
"As a faculty, we felt a certain debt to the public space, where we have not presented ourselves in this way very much so far. We would like to be seen more often on the streets of Brno, and what else to show off than the best of what we have: successful men and women who have built great and interesting careers on their education from the mechanical engineering department," explained the author of the exhibition and head of the FME Marketing department Kateřina Růžičková.
Many of the topics that visitors will find on the panels would probably not be associated with studying at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. "This is also the aim of our exhibition. To show that in addition to classical mechanical engineering, we offer a variety of other study programmes and we really are a faculty of unexpected possibilities," adds Růžičková. At each panel, visitors will find a QR code that takes them to a video or article that further develops the story.
The exhibition runs from today until the end of October on Malinovsky Square in the space between the Centrum department store and the statue of the four bulbs. The monument in honour of the inventor Thomas Alva Edison was designed by Brno sculptor and current vice-dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Brno University of Technology, Tomáš Medek, as part of the Sculptures for Brno project. The light bulbs refer to 1882, when Edison's company electrified the nearby Mahen Theatre, which became the first theatre in Europe to be lit by light bulbs.
