As the Ministry of Defense informs on its website, the air force has faced a shortage of pilots, technicians and air traffic controllers in recent years. Therefore, in 2019, the army decided to take a unique step – the recruitment of pilots from civilian helicopters.
The three new ones have now joined the helicopters in Náměšť and are graduates of the fields of the professional pilot or aircraft construction from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at BUT. Until recently, it was true that the future military pilot must study the relevant field at the University of Defense in Brno. However, Covid helped the army in this area, because the graduates of BUT were looking for a new job after the decline in air traffic.
