Some of technical materials, e.g. various types of ceramics, show a certain degree of porosity. Ceramic material „Eucor“ produced by fusion of natural basalt is one of them. A poro-sity with pore size on the order of milimeters is typical for this material. The paper deals with problems of evaluating elastic constants at this type of material – namely elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio. The experiments showed that evaluating the elasticity modulus from strains measured by electric resistance strain gauges is not credible because the measured strain values are influenced by strain concentrations in the pore vicinity. The elasticity modulus was evaluated from the deflection of a sample loaded by four-point-flexion. The strain concentration in the pore vicinity was modelled by computational modelling and the influence of porosity value on its global elasticity modulus was simulated. Ceramics was treated as a particle composite with particles having zero elasticity modulus.
