Originální abstrakt

The instability of the spine may be caused by degenerative process or trauma. This situation is life threatening and can be resolve only by conservative or operative treatment. Conservative approach versus surgery is ongoing discussion and better understanding of biomechanical feedback in both cases is required. Success of the surgery depends on the surgeons experience, and correct selection of implant based on the knowledge of the mechanisms that caused the trauma, and the knowledge of implant properties. The mechanical properties of spinal implant are very difficult to obtain either in vivo or in vitro. The in vivo test is time consuming and requires telemetric device, while in vitro test requires special testing apparatus and knowledge of the magnitude and distribution of the load induced at the location of the spine under the investigation. Thus the computer simulation is forming very important tool in biomechanics since it can simulate behaviour of the spine in situations in which other methods are impossible. This paper would discuss various loads and their resulting effects on the stress and strain distribution within the spinal segment with USS implant.
