The functional sample of journal bearing No. 2 (FV2) has been developed based on results derived from advanced computational methods and optimization strategies. This innovative design is engineered with the primary goal of effectively minimizing friction losses within the turbocharger rotor system. The key future of this bearing lies in working surfaces of a precisely defined shape, introducing a significant enhancement over conventional designs. Through a series of technical experiments conducted on a turbocharger employing this novel bearing design, notable improvements have been observed in representative parameters. Specifically, the modification of the working surfaces has led to enhanced performance characteristics, notably in terms of reducing power losses across the entire operational speed range of the turbocharger. This signifies a substantial improvement in the efficiency of the rotor-bearing system. Integral to the success of this design is the careful consideration of the radial bearing clearance, meticulously tailored to align with the lubricant properties and operational conditions. The synergy between the FV2 journal bearing and the rotor assembly is delivered, ensuring optimal performance and long-life reliability under varied operating conditions. The FV2 journal bearing functional sample is seamlessly integrated into the ongoing technical experiments forming part of the turbocharger bearing test program. Rigorous verification was undertaken through a comprehensive series of measurements, validating the performance enhancements and affirming the bearing's efficiency in real-world applications. This approach underscores a commitment to advancing technology, pushing the boundaries of efficiency in turbocharger systems through a fusion of computational simulations and technical experiments.
