Originální abstrakt

This paper demonstrates the results of testing toroidal bearings using Acoustic Emission technique. The aim is to find the characterstics of the rolling contact fatigue (RCF) in these special bearings during testing. Toroidal bearings are characterized by their special design, which combines the self-aligning capability with the axial displacement ability, which contributed to the increase in their applications, especially in wind turbine industry. The main concentration of the tests has been on the period before the appearance of pitting. It is thought that by analyzing and studying the AE signal in the period before pitting starts to take place, it is possible to specify the pattern of the signal which will distinguish the initiation of pitting, which will enable us later to better understand the behavior of the specimen during the last stages of the test. The experiments took place in a specially-designed stand for this type of bearing to obtain the best results from AE sensors. This study is an initial step towards other more advanced steps to better understand the crack initiation of pitting mechanisms in toroidal bearings.
