Originální abstrakt

Strength of engineering structures is today often analysed by the finite element method (FEM). In comparison with the analytical approach, FEM has the considerable advantage of solving more complex problems. On the other hand, FEM is not able to directly provide closed-form descriptions of relationships between product parameters and analysed quantities. The closed-form description is very useful for exploring structural performance and optimization. This article describes METAMODELING, i.e. an indirect approximate technique providing a continuous mathematical description of structural performance over the design space. A metamodel is created by fitting FEM data acquired by analysing suitably chosen product configurations. The whole procedure of metamodel construction and its practical utilization in the optimization process is illustrated by an example of spreader beam weight optimization.
