Originální abstrakt

The contribution is focused on numerical modelling of grate combustion of solid fuels by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. Since results from simulations of grate combustion depend, among others, on the quality of input data including temperature, mass flux and chemical composition of flue gas leaving fuel bed, the attention is turned to modelling of processes, that take place within the fuel bed on the grate. A standalone numerical bed model can be coupled with a CFD model of grate furnace (the so called freeboard), providing for an estimate of boundary conditions at the furnace inlet. The aim is to develop a reliable numerical model of packed-bed combustion. Special emphasis is put on the conservativeness property of the numerical model, i.e. the gas formed during in-bed processes must carry correct amount of mass and energy.
