Výměník tepla je tvořen dvouchodou šroubovicí s obdélníkovým průřezem kanálu. Šroubovice je vinuta kolem středové trubky a je rozdělena na otevřenou část a na část uzavřenou. V uzavřené části šroubovice proudí od spodu nahoru voda. Kal proudí otevřenou částí šroubovice ze shora dolů. Je tedy využito i samospádu. Zakřivení kanálu má pozitivní vliv na samočisticí schopnost. Tím, že kal proudí v otevřené části šroubovice a šroubovici lze vyjmout z pláště výměníku, je umožněno snadné čištění plochy výměny tepla na straně kalu.

Heat exchanger is made by a double-threaded helix with a rectangle profile . The helix is winded around the central pipe and is divided into an open and closed part. In the closed part of the helix, water flows from top to bottom taking advantage of gravity circulation. The bending shape of the canal has positive influence on self-cleaning abilities. Since the sludge flows through the open part of the helix, the helix can be taken out of the exchanger shell and the area of heat exchange on the side of the sludge can be easily cleaned.
