Modelling

FSI-YM1 Acad. year: 2021/2022 Winter semester

The subject is focused on modelling the basic topic of the course, it is a head, which is an idea object for practising the sense of construction of mass in space. The term is divided into three tasks, the first being modelling a skull according to a model, which is the necessary foundation for the subsequent two tasks – modelling a head according to gypsum busts, enabling students to acquire basic knowledge of modelling techniques for volume building, preservation of proportional relations and capturing character and eventual model movement and work with details.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

To acquiring the sense of space, plastic shape, estimation and measurement of dimensions. Knowledge of the necessary technical basics of working with modelling clay and modelling equipment. The development of artistic sense of construction of 3D objects and practical knowledge of anatomy of head.

Prerequisites

Theoretical knowledge of perspective and drawing geometric bodies by model are a prerequisite.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The subject is taught in the form of seminars that are practically focused on modelling with individual consultations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for gaining credit: attendance at seminars, submission of assignments in specified dates. The final assessment is counted as an average grade from the three projects. The classification is determined by the ECTS scale.
ECTS evaluation degrees / Pts. rating / Numeric rating: A / 100 – 90 / 1 / Excellent; B / 89 – 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 – 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 – 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 – 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 – 0 / 4 / Failed.

Aims

The graduates will be able to practice a basic way of spatial and creative depiction of reality. The graduates will be able to model an object according to a model in scale 1:1, with an emphasis on volume construction, proportions and character of model. The subject develops the ability to observe and analyse visual elements and cultivates art predisposition for individual creative activity in the area of industrial design.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Participation in seminars is compulsory. Seminars are based on weekly schedules. Determining ways to compensate for missed lessons is the responsibility of the supervisor.
